Why Macro Images Are My Favourite and Why I Always Include Them in Every Newborn Session
There’s something truly magical about macro images captured during a newborn photography session.
When we photograph newborns, we’re freezing a moment in time when they are at their newest—freshly welcomed into the world, still deliciously soft and squidgy (honestly, there’s no better word for it!).
They’re wrapped in love, surrounded by awe-struck parents and family, all soaking in that beautiful newborn bubble. And in that bubble, it’s the tiniest details that matter most—the perfectly curled toes, the delicate fingers, the sweet pouty lips, the soft curve of their profile. Every tiny feature tells a story. And I love capturing every bit of it.
As a first-time mum, you might not realise just how valuable these images are in the moment. You’re in the haze of sleep deprivation and wonder, and your baby still feels so small in your arms.
But here’s when the magic really hits: when baby number two arrives.
Suddenly, you're changing your newborn’s nappy and nearly fling them into orbit because you’ve spent the last year changing a toddler’s. It’s in that moment you realise just how much your first baby has grown—and just how tiny they used to be.
Those close-up, detailed images? They become treasured keepsakes. Little time capsules of a season that flies by far too quickly.
That’s why I include macro photography in every single newborn session—no exceptions. These images are just too precious not to.
Because these aren’t just photos. They’re memories you’ll want to hold onto forever.
Love,
Nat ❤️
